The holiday season is upon us, and nothing makes me happier than seeing what the cosmetic companies have spent the last year creating. Today the spotlight is on Clinique, and I’ll highlight some of the must-have items that made me whip out my credit card in seconds flat.

The Black Tie Violets line is new and exclusive for 2009, and available for a limited time only. According to Clinique, the line features “Holiday glamour all wrapped up in softly shimmering shades of violet from plums to lilacs. Gorgeous effects for eyes, cheeks, and lips beautifully illuminate every skin tone.” And beautiful they are.

Last week I raved about my Nars blush (lovelovelove), but Clinique broke me down. My girl Katie at the counter insisted I try the Shimmering Stripes Powder Blusher in Tuxedo Plum. One swipe and I knew it was a winner. The blush is color blocked and the colors range from a pale pink to luxurious plum, giving you great range and depth when applied to the cheeks. I do caution you to sweep lightly - A little bit of this stuff goes a long way. This is a limited edition color, so it won’t be around long. At $29.50, this blush will last forever and is well worth the cost.

Katie also showed me some great lip glosses from the Black Tie Violets line. I am OBSESSED with lip gloss. I have a million tubes (all basically in the same 3 colors - hey, I know what looks good on me!) and constantly tell myself to stop buying the stuff but I can’t. I swear, I could make it until I’m 90 with the lip gloss I currently own. Ok, sorry about the tangent - back to Clinique. I am now in love with Full Potential Lips Plump and Shine in Bloomberry. This stuff is the bommmb. Smooth and creamy, not sticky, and it contains a plumper (the effects are subtle) and tons of shine. The color is perfect too - not too pink and not too bright - instantly giving lips that pop of color, making it the hottest accessory to any holiday party dress.

Anabel - the good news is that the lip products that are a part of this line come in a variety of colors, making it easier to find one that works for you. A quick tip - you can easily alter the color of a lipgloss or lipstick by applying it over (or under) another shade. Just a thought if you were dying to have something from the Black Tie Violets line!

colors are so pretty, but wouldnt really suit my skintone

The packaging is so cute!
