For anyone who has perfected an inky cat-eye liner or found the secret to perfectly smoldering smoky eyes, there is a certain sense of accomplishment. With the flick of your wrist and the touch of a brush, you can recreate the look in your sleep. Congratulations. Now it’s time to get outside of the comfort zone and see if you can stand up to red eyeliner!

During Spring Fashion Week back in September, designers chose some pretty insane makeup to accompany their looks down the runway. There were a lot of brightly-colored eyelids, and red made an appearance in more than one show.

In New York, Gwen Stefani’s makeup artist adorned the L.A.M.B. ladies with winged red liner (top), and in London, Giles Deacon sent models down the runway with a pink-red shadow smudged all the way up to the brows.
