Flaunt Me Dating Special: Lip Signals

The history of lipstick started long ago, by some of the most powerful women. Some crushed insects, stones and plants to give off the appearance of youth and health. Did this get the attention of acceptable male suitors, or even seduce them? Some believed it did. In 1770, England’s parliament passed a law against lipstick, believing that women who seduced men into marriage by wearing makeup, should be tried as witches.

The modern woman (or witch) only needs to run down to the nearest Sephora to get this look in less than five minutes. Does wearing certain lipstick colors have the power to send messages to the opposite sex?

On a date if we decide to wear a nude lipstick, does that say, “I’m natural, what you see is what you might get?” By wearing a pink one, do we subconsciously appear younger, flirty even? What if we decide on red? Will that send a signal to your date that you might be confident and sexy? Desmond Morris’s theory in his book, The Naked Woman, A Study of the Female Body, is that the lips of a female adult when colored or reddened resemble the look of an aroused female.

There are no clear answers. I think we as women, subconsciously know we hold some kind of power over the male species.
