Yesterday, American Apparel announced that they will launch a nail polish line that will sell alongside the glorious racks of cotton and spandex in their retail stores. Like everything at American Apparel, the polishes will be made entirely in the USA. As an added bonus, it will also be DBP, toluene and formaldehyde-free. There will be 18 colors to choose from initially, and if you’ve ever wondered how companies come up with nail polish names, wonder no longer.

According to the press release, all of the color names are inspired by things in the world of American Apparel. These include “Factory Grey,” which is the actual color of the floors in American Apparel factories, and “Office,” a mint green shade that was found on the cover of an accounting notepad at American Apparel headquarters. The red color pictured is “Downtown LA.”

The polishes will be available “soon” in American Apparel stores for $6 a bottle or $15 for a 3-pack. Do you think you’ll be buying your nail polish when you stop in for your next pair of Nylon Spandex Stretch Floral Lace Stirrup Leggings (another new product announced yesterday), or will you stick with your OPI?
