The awesome thing about runway shows is that nothing really has to be wearable on the street. Designers send models down the runway in shoes that are nearly impossible to walk in, and clothing that sometimes looks like it belongs more in the bedroom than on the street (hello, lingerie trend of S/S 2010). Often times the makeup and hair looks are equally as ridiculous, but sometimes fun to try out in the real world!
Exaggerated Eyelashes
There was a lot of play with false eyelashes on the runways this year, including these sweet mod lashes at 3.1 Phillip Lim. Although this look might seem a little overkill for every day, some strategically placed individual lashes can make your eyes pop! If you are feeling adventurous, try playing around with them on the bottom lashes like they did at the show.
Undone Updo
We spend so much time trying to hide bobby pins in our hair that somehow we never realized how cool they can look. The updos at Carolina Herrera Fall 2009 show had these really cool bronze pins, and Dior’s Fall show also used visible pins to create futuristic-looking flapper bobs. I have yet to master this look, but with some playing around I think it can be done!
Two-Toned Lips
Perhaps one of the more difficult to understand looks on the runways was at Emanuel Ungaro, where the models wore two-toned lip color. It looks really fun actually, but I just don’t see how someone could pull it off in real life — I mean, wouldn’t you smush the two colors together throughout the day and end up with a different color? Let me know if you find a way to do this one, but in the meantime I will just admire it as art.
