No, green eyeshadow and eyeliner weren’t all the rage in 2009. We’re talking green as in environmentally-friendly. 2009 was all about being nice to the environment and we learned lots of ways to lessen our carbon footprint. Lots of us didn’t even realize our makeup could have an impact on the environment, and how many Earth-friendly alternatives there are.
Some of our top eco-friendly beauty brands in 2009 include Physicians Formula Organic Wear. They were actually the first ECOCERT certified American organic makeup line and if you’re a fan of the classic Physicians Formula, you’ll likely love their organic wear too. The ingredients are 100% organic and even the packaging is made from paper instead of plastic. Always a fan of bronzers, Physicians Formula’s bronzer gives us a completely natural tanned look. With 6 different shades, one is sure to give you the level of tan that you want. The product also contains jojoba seed oil and corn starch to moisturize and mattify your skin.
We’re also fans of Cargo’s PlantLove line. PlantLove products are free of parabens, phthalates, petro-chemicals, and synthetic dyes and fragrances. Their packaging is actually made from corn and they were awarded “Best Green Make-Up Line” by InStyle magazine. PlantLove’s lipsticks come in amazing colors and some were even designed by celebrities like Sarah Chalke and Lindsay Lohan. Their lipsticks are also ECOCERT certified.
Though you might have to pay a bit more to get these environmentally-friendly products, I think most of us have come to realize that the small price is worth it, both to protect our environment and also to better take care of our own skin and bodies. We have an inkling that eco-friendly beauty is only going to get bigger in 2010, with more and more companies going green. And we can’t wait to see!
