Last night, CBS aired the 36th Annual People’s Choice Awards. Johnny Depp is still everyone’s favorite actor, and somehow True Blood beat out Gossip Girl for favorite TV Obsession (Impossible. I demand a recount!), but somehow I always find the red carpet looks to be more exciting than the actual award ceremony. Here are a few of my favorite beauty looks, and some of my least favorites from the show!
Taylor Swift — I don’t even really like country music, but for some reason I like Taylor. She just seems really sweet, and she has a knack for looking classically pretty. Her look at the People’s Choice Awards was no exception: she wore her hair in a loose updo that framed her face nicely, paired with simple eyemakeup (but check out the use of white eyeliner to make her eyes sparkle!) and rosy lips.
Sandra Bullock — Sandra won Favorite Movie Actress this year, even though she was up against some good contenders, like Anne Hathaway and Kristen Stewart. I guess that just goes to show that sometimes our old favorites are more reliable than these newfangled stars (or perhaps it was a bunch of RPattz fans plotting against Kristen. You decide for yourself). Unfortunately, Sandra’s look falls a little flat for me. Her skintone sort of matches her dress, which gives her a very bland start. Then the makeup is all very neutral as well, which makes the look even more understated! I would have loved to have seen a bright lipstick color or a dramatic eye to bring her a little more shine.
Jessica Alba — Does Jessica ever look bad? It’s sort of annoying how damn cute she looks all the time. I love her shorter hair that has some wave to it, and her makeup compliments her dress very well. She has a light dusting of silver shadow that mimics the color of the dress while the nude glossy lip color keeps the look classy and not too “disco ball” on her.
Kelly Rutherford — She may play one of the worst moms ever on Gossip Girl, but both Lily and Kelly have a really great sense of style. While I thought her dress was just OK, I think the look would have been a lot better if her hair weren’t slicked back into a tight updo. She wears her hair this way a lot on the show, which I think is fitting for Lily’s uptight character, but I wish she’d take a hint from Taylor and wear a loose chignon or something.
Did you have any favorites from last night? What about looks you could’ve gone without?
