One of my favorite movies of all time is Belle de Jour, starring Catherine Deneuve. If you haven’t seen it, you should! Catherine was such a beauty back in the day, and I absolutely loved the chic and effortless hairstyle that she sports after a long day at the, um, brothel — the French twist. However, as a girl with relatively fine hair, I have a heck of a time getting it to stay pinned in place once I twist it up, proving the “effortless” part of the look quite untrue. I scoured YouTube for a good video, and my favorite happens to be by the same user who brought us last week’s Bow Hair.
I’ll warn you now, this video is really long and sort of boring. Really, it’s 8 minutes of watching this girl smooth out every bump in her twist. I prefer a more undone French twist, but some people might like the perfectly sculpted version as well. To her credit, this girl has ridiculously long hair, so pinning it all is quite a job. I mainly looked at this video for pinning techniques. My hair isn’t long enough to need one of those big pins to hold the hair in place as I go, but I thought it was an interesting inclusion. Now I’m practicing pinning the way she does by starting on the twist and sort of turning it back under. I’m hoping this will solve my problem once and for all!
