Ok, so I admit that I’ve been absolutely ignoring the Heidi Montag plastic surgery story. This is mainly because, even before the surgeries, not many things make me more sick to my stomach than Heidi. For those not up to speed with this story, basically the reality TV star had more than 10 plastic surgeries in one day, and has now made her story incredibly public by splashing it all over People magazine and sitting for TV interviews. I’m so torn on the subject — part of me feels so badly for this girl, because she has obviously fallen victim to the media’s criticism. Another part of me is sickened by the fact that she is so eager to use this to gain media attention. Take a look at the interview that she did with Access Hollywood.
The first thing that bothers me is Heidi’s reference to how she had too much of the drug that Michael Jackson died from taking. What better way to give yourself press than to try to align yourself with a high-profile celebrity death? Just gross.
I won’t even delve into Heidi’s “God made Dr. Frank Ryan, too” comment, because I’m sure that everyone has different beliefs regarding religion and what’s right and wrong when it comes to changing our physical appearances.
What I will say is that I actually feel sort of bad for Heidi’s husband, Spencer Pratt. He told People magazine that he wasn’t in favor of the surgeries and that seeing Heidi right after the procedure was the “worst experience of my life.” Whether that’s true, or if he’s also playing into this media game — who knows, but I can’t imagine having someone I cared about being turned into a plastic doll. What are your thoughts on this story?
