One of my favorite movies of all time is Belle de Jour, starring Catherine Deneuve. If you haven’t seen it, you should! Catherine was such a beauty back in the day, and I absolutely loved the chic and effortless hairstyle that she sports after a long day at the, um, brothel — the French twist. However, as a girl with relatively fine hair, I have a heck of a time getting it to stay pinned in place once I twist it up, proving the “effortless” part of the look quite untrue. As everyone knows by now, the conditions in Haiti after the record-level earthquake this week are horrific. The death tolls are estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands, and many injured people are expected to die without proper treatment of their wounds. After all of the overwhelming news reports, speeches and photographs that we’ve been seeing and hearing over the past few days, it is important not to forget that this is not just about the magnitude of the disaster, but about all of the individual people who are suffering physically and mentally from injury, loss, and starvation. White eyeliners are making a return for spring/summer 2010. This colorless pencil made its appearance at the Anna Sui Spring 2010 Show.
