We’re always talking about crazy beauty trends here at FlauntMe because… that’s what we do best! I was just wondering to myself, how many people actually try out these outrageous looks at home? I’ve been playing around with makeup forever, and I’ll admit that I’ve attempted some crazy looks that stayed in my bathroom, washed off before they met the public eye. There have been various shades of hideous blue eyeshadow that looked more drag than fab, ridiculous fake lashes that could only be worn on Halloween (and were in some cases), and exaggerated liquid liner that curled out far beyond the corner of my eyes. It’s time for another weekly International Beauty Report! This week, I did some field work in Italy! While I rang in the New Year in Rome, I scoped out the beauty scene. Just in observation, I noticed that many young (20s) Italian women don’t wear very much makeup and seem to prefer a natural look. Older women (40s and on), however, were far more made up, sometimes with ridiculously thick eyeliner and outrageous colors! The big beauty item in Italy seems to be perfume, as there are perfume shops everywhere that carry most of the typical European brands like Chanel, D&G and Dior (see awesome Chanel No. 5 Graffiti found in Florence above). I did also find a few fun cosmetics lines in my quest for Italian beauty! More »

I was looking at my favorite section in Sephora today: the small sized items near the cash register. I feel like I always find something cute or interesting when I browse there. I saw a little pink package of makeup wipes by Josie Maran that read, “Erase your face, not the polar bear race!” A really useful product for a really good cause! More »

Back-to-back Gaga posts? Coldplay title references? I know guys, I’m sorry. But when I saw the pictures from Lady Gaga’s peformance at the Fontainbleu Hotel in Miami on New Year’s Eve, I had to say something about her hair. We’ve seen it before: platinum blonde locks with streaks of pink, purple, blue, and any other color (makes me miss the days of Gwen Stefani’s pink hair!). But I don’t think I’ve ever seen blonde hair with yellow highlights! More »
I picked up a copy of last week’s French Elle magazine (it’s a weekly in France… if only I could afford to have it shipped to the U.S.!), and Dree Hemingway was on the cover. Dree is a model and the great-granddaughter of a writer you may have heard of… Ernest Hemingway? Anyway, famous granddaddy aside, Dree was sporting some pretty awesome hair flowers on the cover! If there’s a super model you should receive makeup advice from, it’s Kate Moss. Being well past the prime age for modeling at 35, Kate stuns all by the fact that she’s got her own fashion line, perfume and has no problem booking fashion shoots. Let’s not overlook her big cocaine scandal from a few years back. Unfortunately, her beauty secrets…nothing unheard of. More »

In a survey of 3,000 people conducted by a British drugstore, Superstore, Angelina Jolie was recently voted the beauty icon of the decade. Following in second was Jennifer Anniston — OUCH. I can’t say I blame the Brits for choosing Angelina. Those lips, those eyes, the hair; everything about Angelina’s beauty is otherworldy. More »

Nothing is as timeless as black eyeliner. Ever since it was first used in Ancient Egypt, it hasn’t gone out of style. Unfortunately, Cleopatra didn’t have as many black eyeliner options available to her as we do now. Black eyeliner, or eyeliner in general as you all know comes in liquid, gel or pencil form. Personally, I’m a big gel fan. I swear my life on MAC’s Blacktrack Fluidline (gel) paired off with an angled brush. I’ve had this life-long problem of being klutzy, and thus, my hands are too shaky for liquid liner. My question to you is, which form of black eyeliner do you prefer and why? More »

I’m not such a big fan of holding super hot objects close to my head. The fact that Target currently has a Conair Instant heat Curling Iron on sale for $9.99 is making me reconsider. Especially since one of my resolutions for 2010 was to actually do something with my hair aside from washing and drying it. According to a sister-like friend of mine, this baby heats up in seconds. She has paper-thin hair that according to her, requires an even shorter amount of time to wrap sections of hair around the iron. More »

When it comes to makeup safety, I’ve got one rule and one rule alone: Trust no one. I don’t care if your friend tells you that she’s been using this product for x amount of years and that it has no expiration date. Make-up doesn’t work the same for everyone. Plus, who likes getting infections that are make-up related? Wisen up and look to the following legit online resources for make-up safety information. More »

Not wearing eye makeup primer when you have eye makeup on is one of the most unforgivable face offenses one can commit. There’s no reason why you shouldn’t wear it. Unless you have something severely against getting the most out of your eye shadow in terms of color and wear duration. I’ve yet to come across a makeup primer that didn’t execute the promise of brighter, intense eye shadow color that stays on forever. Despite this, there are some primers that tend to do better than others. More »

When it comes to hair, I’ll admit — I am one lazy chick. This isn’t to say I have bad hair, I just don’t do much with it. I’m not entirely sure if braids are in or not, but I’m feeling mighty inspired. Who cares about trends anyways? Now, if only my arms didn’t hurt so much braiding my own hair… More »

As helpful as Youtube make-up tutorials are, they’re also totally hilarious. Especially if they’re mocking society’s less-than-desirable looks. One such look is Gloria aka Glowpinkstah’s “Chola Make-up Tutorial.” Sandra Bullock is a total fan, judging by the way she recently volunteered herself to be made over by Gloria on the George Lopez Show. 1 million+ hits can’t be wrong either. Former actress and model Bo Derek, 53, has forever implanted the image of herself as Jenny Hanley in 10, emerging from the ocean with her beach babe body and braided hair. So much so, that I forget that she’s currently old enough to be my parent. It’s slightly puzzling to look at what she looks like now. More »
