Planning a night out with that special someone on Valentine’s Day? Whether you are going out on a typical dinner and a movie type of date or something a bit more extravagant like flying to Paris and going on a dinner cruise on the Seine, you want to look your best no matter what. But what do you wear? How will you do your makeup? And your hair? What do you do with your hair?! Valentine’s Day is the best time to let your romantic side come out. I think the best look for a Valentine’s night out with your sweetheart is a soft, feminine look.

Makeup:
For this look, it is best to keep your makeup subtle.

– For your eyes, a great product that has all of the ubiquitous Valentine colors–pink, violet, and white–is Smashbox’s Heartbreaker Eye Shadow Palette, Kiss N’ Tell version. Michelle Phan has a good online tutorial on how to apply eyeshadow specifically for Valentine’s Day. Also remember to downplay the eyeliner and try to bring some focus to your eyelashes by adding some volume with mascara and/or false eyelashes, which ever your preference.

– Of course blush is always important. Pick a pink or rose colored blush that suits your skintone to highlight those cheekbones.

– The most important feature on a woman is her lips. Again, for this look, it is best to stick with soft colors for your lips that fall under the pink, rose, or plum categories. I personally prefer lip gloss over lipstick because it makes me feel a bit more flirtatious. My favorite color is Eternal Blossom from Revlon’s Colorstay Mineral Lipglaze line of products.

Hair:
– If you have long hair, why not try something similar to musician Taylor Swift’s romantic curls? Here is a great YouTube tutorial to achieve this look.

– For something a little different, you can always go for a loose side-braid like the ones models sported for Alexander Wang’s fashion show for his Spring 2010 collection. Here are step-by-step instructions to get the look actress Rachel McAdams was inspired to try.

Perfume:
– Fragrances with a floral and/or fruity scent is ideal when keeping up with the romantic theme. Vera Wang Princess is good if you want to continue to convey soft femininity. However, if you are feeling a little bit flirtatious and sassy, then Eau Emotionnelle by Agent Provocateur will better suit you.
