Last weekend, I wondered if you use makeup brushes or your fingers to apply your face. I use brushes because I think they give you more control over your products, but one of the downsides is that you have to constantly clean them in order to keep bacteria from growing. I tried a new way of cleaning my brushes today, and I have to say that it worked pretty well.
I always used specialty brush cleaners in the past, such as M.A.C’s Brush Cleanser that you use on paper towel and clean them with. This works, but I never felt like it got all of the old makeup out of my brushes.
Today, I ran my brushes under warm water, put a dot of dishwashing soap in my palm, and swirled my brushes around in it. This proved to be much more effective because it created a sort of sudsy shampooing effect. the old makeup ran right out of the brushes, and they are now the same color as when I bought them! Make sure that you do this right after you apply your makeup for the day so that the brushes have 24 hours to dry before you use them again — you should let them air dry.
