Instead of being disgruntled about having no one to share Valentine’s Day with, why not embrace single life by celebrating Singles Awareness Day? S.A.D. is a mock holiday denouncing the concept and commercialism of Valentine’s Day. Plan a night out with your best girlfriends who are also single and just enjoy each other’s company.
There are many great things to do on a night out on the town like going to a karaoke bar to sing a bad cover version of “Wannabe” by the Spice Girls or have a nice quiet dinner in a fancy restaurant where good conversation flows throughout the night. I personally love to go dancing with my close girlfriends when I get the chance. There have been times where I have gone laser tagging and bowling with them too.
However you and your friends choose to spend girls night out, remember to make yourself look as great as you feel. As opposed to trying out a classic romantic look, a night out with the girls is a perfect excuse to ditch the subtle makeup for a more fun, dramatic look. Bring out your inner she-wolf by experimenting with bold, glamorous colors.
First, you should pick a feature on your face to be the primary focus. I tend to like to have focus on my eyes, so I normally wear a more subtle lip color when I wear vibrant eye shadow colors. You do not necessarily have to ditch the traditional Valentine colors–pink, purple, white, and red–when it comes to your makeup. Something you could try is a purple or hot pink smoky eye. My favorite line of bold eye shadows is L’Oreal’s HiP high intensity pigments. They have a really beautiful bright purple shadow called Reckless.
If you want to put focus on your lips, do not be afraid to vamp it up with a red lipstick. Just remember to pick the right shade of red to match your skin tone. Your eye makeup and blush should be as very minimalistic as possible. Why? You do not want to end up looking like a clown.
After you are done with your habitual routine of getting ready, then it is time to enjoy yourself with your best girlfriends on Singles Awareness Day because you necessarily do not need to be in a relationship to be happy.
