In case you didn’t know, non-melanoma skin cancer is now the most common cancer diagnosed. According to a new study, skin cancer affects more people than all other types of cancer combined! As a pasty white girl, I sometimes long for a tan to give some life to my pale skin in the summer time. I’ve even resorted to the terrible tanning booth in the past, but I’m starting to think that I should just accept my complexion rather than risk it.

I try to keep myself safe from UV rays as much as possible, which has been difficult since I burn so easily! If I’m headed to the beach or going to be spending a lot of time outside, I cover all of my exposed skin with a lotion sunscreen. For a while, I tried using the spray-on sunscreen that dries clear, but I found that I would be mostly covered and then have splotches of burnt red. I think that the lotion form gives me a better idea of which spots I’ve covered and where I’ve missed!

I wear a tinted moisturizer with SPF in it every day, but for extra protection during the summer months, I use Korres Watermelon Facial Sunscreen. This stuff is the best. It doesn’t clog my pores and isn’t greasy, plus it smells great. I try to reapply this throughout the day if I’m spending a lot of time outside, and I try to remember to use it on the top of my ears too!

Dermatologists recommend wearing sunscreen, covering up your skin in the sun, staying out of the sun between 10am and 3pm when the rays are strongest, and staying out of tanning beds. Completely!
