Marie Claire online did a great post on sensitive skin and if we were allergic to our beauty products. They give you a list of five steps to take for prevention of a bad reaction. Are we allergic to certain products or just plain sensitive?
1. Marie Claire suggests we toss out all those expired products, once the seal is broken, that is it. The timer starts. Your expired products can start growing dangerous bacteria.
2. The old patch test, brands always recommend we do this and we never do. If the products you try on your skin start to sting, stay away from them.
3. Much to my surprise, Marie Claire says that even products we have been using for many years can still eventually cause an allergic reaction.
4. This one is a common sense one. They say less is more. For a sensitive skin type, using a bunch of products means more ingredients to potentially cause a reaction. So if you are truly sensitive, stick to fewer products.
5. The last step says check percentages of ingredients in products. If you are allergic, it does not matter what that percentage is, if you are just sensitive, this could mean you may need a milder dose.
