Keeping your body healthy is just as important as any beauty regimen, but sometimes it is way easier to think about exercising than to actually get to the gym and do it. Lots of people choose to switch up their exercise regimens on a regular basis to keep things fresh, and I’ve got something that you should try if you get the chance — Zumba! It’s a Latin dance class that aims to make exercising fun.

Zumba has been around for years, but I only tried it for the first time recently. I was really skeptical about it, since I am the world’s worst dancer. Seriously, worst ever. I ended up having fun anyway, and I absolutely felt the effects on my muscles the next day!

The class is an hour long, and the cool part about it is that you never have to remember very much choreography for a long time. The steps only last as long as a song, and then you do something entirely different for the next song. The steps are also basic enough that you can control how much booty-shaking you want to put into them — obviously it is better if you go all-out, but if you are like me and might injure someone around you by busting a move, you can stick to the basics.

In my class, the instructor used different kinds of music — Latin, American pop, hip-hop, and even a Bollywood-inspired dance! I really liked the fact that if I didn’t enjoy a particular section, it was done and on to the next thing in less than five minutes.

You can check out the Zumba website to find out if there are instructors near you who teach a class, or you can do some YouTube searching to find videos! Here’s a video of the Zumba founder on the Today Show from a few years ago. Look at how cute Ann Curry and Natalie Morales are Zumba-ing on the Plaza!

Is it a little cheesy? Yes. Does it work? Judging by the muscle pain in my abdomen the next day, it probably does something good!
