As the summer weather becomes more and more frequent, I find myself reminiscing on days gone by when I spent my summers lazily enjoying ice cream with my friends instead of working. One great beauty phenomenon of those summers was Sun-In, a hair lightening product that many a junior high boy and girl used for streaky highlights and “tips”.
I was never allowed to use Sun-In, as my mom thought it would ruin my hair (in retrospect, THANKS MOM!), but I had plenty of friends who broke out their bottles every summer. Essentially, the stuff contained chemicals that lighten your hair in the sun or under a hair dryer. While it seemed to give blondes a pretty subtle lightening, the results on my brunette friends were sometimes more orange than anything.
I remember feeling very left out during this beauty trend, but looking back now on pictures of my friends and I in 8th grade, I’m pretty happy that my strands stayed the color that they were supposed to be! If you are curious about this product, I’m pretty sure you can still find it at drugstores! Do share your results if you test it out — maybe the formula has gotten better!
