The past six months have spawned a craze for longer lashes by way of a product called Latisse. The brush-on liquid lengthens and thickens eyelashes, and although it is supposed to be prescribed by a doctor, many cosmetic surgeons and even spas sell it over the counter. The New York Times ran a story this weekend about some of the risks associated with it.
Apparently if not used correctly, this serum can make more than your eyelashes grow — it can also sprout hair in other places on your skin, including on your cheek! Latisse is derived from a glaucoma medication which has side effects that have caused some people to grow a second row of eyelashes. Additionally, it can cause discoloration of your eyes — not just the white but the iris as well! The moral of this story? Be careful when using this product! Get it from your doctor, and only use it as directed. Otherwise you could end up with less-than-desirable results!
