Upon first hearing that LUSH was launching a new brand of perfume called Gorilla Perfume, I naturally had to try Tuca Tuca — the line’s first perfume available stateside. As a taste of what’s to come in October when Lush releases 8 more scents, I can say that Lush is definitely heading in the right direction for perfume that’s high-end with a low-end price.
Tuca Tuca, is Italian for Touch Touch and inspired by a popular Italian pop song from the ’60s. Touch Touch and rightly so — the fragrance was created for, “that fun and flirtatious girl inside us all – she’s mischievous with a naughty sense of humor and an infectious giggle.” It’s described as a flirtatious violet fragrance with notes of cassie, vanilla, sandalwood, vetivert, violet leaf and ylang ylang.
Having worn it the past week, it’s definitely the perfect perfume to wear on a night out if you’re a lady on a mission. (Of flirting and other coquettish acts.) Application for me was just a spritz to the the wrist, patting both wrists together and a pat to my pulse points with both wrists. At first spritz, the scent is SUPER strong. A lot of reviews of Tuca Tuca I’ve run across state that it’s almost old lady strong. What most people don’t know is that a perfume’s scent changes over time just as your body’s chemistry changes. Also, the perfume’s scent is not the same on every person.
Within a few minutes of application, the top note, (what you first smell after applying the perfume) smelled less strong and more of a light blast of violet with a touch of spice. 2-3 hours later, the heart note revealed itself (the scent that comes after the top note) to be a full-bodied, sensual vanilla. This is about the time you should make any kills. Finally around the 6th hour of wear, the perfume’s final note was ylang ylang.
In addition to the perfume, the accompanying massage soap was also quite a treat. Although not used for a massage, I must say — it feels very rich and leaves skin feeling soft. If you’d like to extend your perfume’s wear, the massage soap is recommended.
Despite coming on strong, Tuca Tuca proved itself to be a long-wearing pleasant perfume with a warm, flirty scent that’s definitely earned its spot in my rotation of Fall/Winter perfumes.
