I always have liked testing out new products and I happened to come across this recently: Sula Paint & Peel Nail Color! Since I was at Winners, a local Canadian store that sells designer products for less, I saw this in the nail polish rack and immediately took interest when I saw the words paint & peel.

Sula Beauty has released a variety of different colours that you can purchase from colours like Dove (warm grey colour), and Bubblegum (bubblegum pink), to colours such as Kelly (green), and Azure (teal). I chose this specific colour however, Modern Mauve, which is a light purple, but not light enough to be considered lilac. Paint & Peel is a water-based nail polish, so it is definitely healthier for your nails. Plus, it states that “you’ll never need remover again!”

Here’s what it states on the inside of the package:

“Wear it for a day or two, then peel it off when you want to. How cool is that? Paint & Peel is easy to apply, better-for-your nail color with the same glossy chip-resistant finish as acrylic polish.”

Colour: I am extremely happy at how this purple colour turned out to be! However, I did think it was supposed to be the same colour as in the bottle, but it is a tad bit darker. Plus, you’ll need to apply the top coat to make it more similar to the colour in the bottle.

Application: The nail polish is quite thick and has this rubbery smell, unlike most nail polishes where you can smell the alcohol. The formula was pretty okay for me, but it can very easily cause streaks if you have an uneven hand. Also, due to this formula being water-based and weaker when it’s wet, you are advised to avoid contact with hot water for 4 hours following application. It dries in this rubbery format with the shine of regular nail polish still there.

Survival: I’ve had it on for about 3 days now, and I can say that it will definitely survive a week, but you might want to apply a bit more top coat at the tips of your nails because that was definitely the first place that it started lifting up from, even on the first day.

Removal: You are apparently supposed to be able to remove this easily after a day or two, but that does not seem to be the case for me. I scratched pretty hard to get it to lift a bit and then it just got stuck. Afterwards, I had to use some nail polish remover to actually get the product off my nail. However, if you just want a quick swatch of the nail colour, it peels off almost perfectly! I have some comparison pictures below:

Overall: Sula’s Paint & Peel Nail Color is definitely a unique product alright. I’ve had tons of positive feedback about the colour and hearing how it is a peel nail polish without the need for nail polish remover. However, if you leave it on for a bit longer, it does get frustratingly hard to peel off and thus, beats the purpose of it being a peel nail polish. It’s a good thing I managed to get this for a relatively lower price than what it is usually marketed as because I honestly would not go and pay the full $9 for it.

Here are some more pictures of the nail polish and the product on my newly tanned hands.
