My skin is so oily, that if it were a natural resource, we’d be fighting wars over it. Luckily for the rest of the world, it isn’t. Unfortunately for me, that just means an endless quest for products to keep my oil at bay. My latest attempt was Shiseido’s Pureness skincare line, which aims to treat the oily and the blemish prone. I went for the whole 3-step shebang (cleanser + toner + moisturizer). This review is all about the Shiseido Pureness Deep Cleansing Foam.

First, I’ll have to spare you any home-shot images. The Pureness 3-step line basically looks like this, but the packaging is blue and the words are different.

Texture and consistency-wise, the Pureness Deep Cleansing Foam is thick, pearly and creamy with small blue beads. Apparently they are called, ” blue purifying granules.” I’m not quite sure what they actually do because they dissipate the moment you start lathering the cleanser in the palm of your hand. And if you were wondering, using the cleanser is a no-brainer. Take a little bit in your palm, add water, work into a lather and massage onto your face. Then rinse. Voila!

What I love about this cleanser is that a little bit goes a really long way. You know how it’s often ‘pea-sized’ — you only need a quarter of a pea. Pea-sized in your hand is enough to wash your entire body. No joke! Don’t be liberal with this product.

Does it do the job? Yes. However, it’s not the deepest of cleansers — you still have to remove your makeup before using, otherwise the second step (the softener) will pick it up.

While it’s on the steep side of cleanser prices ($22 USD), you can justify the price with the fact that a little goes a long way.

Score: 5/5
