To pop or not to pop, that is the question. A question that has skin experts and dermatologists divided. Me? I’m no skin expert or a dermatologist, but I’m of the, “Popping Pimples Is Okay If You Do It Right” persuasion. Let’s face it, most of us do it! My way of popping pimples has been pretty effective for quick relief (for me). Take note, what works for me won’t necessarily work for you.
A comedone extractor (pictured above). You can get one from Amazon for $10.95.
Step 1 - Clean
Always, always start with fresh clean skin and only pop pimples with white heads that are clearly visible aka. They’re ripe and ready to go, not below the surface. If you can’t see the pimple, it’s not ready.
Step 2 - Pop
Take the flat end of the comedone extractor over your pimple so that it forms a loop around it, but not directly above the pimple. While holding the comedone extractor, maintain steady pressure on your skin and slowly drag the loop towards the pimple until the puss comes out. Wipe the puss off your face by dabbing a tissue over the pimple once.
Step 3 - Protect
Immediately cover the pimple up with your spot healer/blemish serum of choice.
Step 4 - Disinfect
It’s really important that you clean your comedone extractor tool immediately after using it. I clean mine by taking an alcohol pad and rubbing it over the used head.
While I can’t with confidence say my way is correct, I can say that I’ve never experienced any scarring or more pimples.
Do you pop your own zits?
