Before Dinora Rodriguez went under the knife, she had two, normal breasts. However, when she woke up from surgery, she only had one. Of course, this was not a request of hers. Rodriguez intended on having her leaky implants replaced, but something else happened on her operating table.

“My breasts looked really bad,” says Rodriguez in a safety campaign for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. “It looked like I had one big breast instead of two. And the pain was terrible.”

Symmastia, is a condition where implant pockets become connected in the cleavage area. This only happens when the implants are placed too close together and to the middle of the chest, and sort of migrate towards one other. Still, this only happens when the person doing the surgery does not have the faintest idea of what they are doing.

As if having one breast wasn’t bad enough, Dinora also woke up to discover that the so-called doctor had fiddled a little bit with a scar on her eye, without her permission! Due to his ignorance, she’s unable to close her lids, and never will be able to for the rest of her life. The ASPS is now using Dinora’s nightmare as a warning for patients considering cheaper surgeries by going with non-board-certified plastic surgeons.

“There are tons of doctors performing plastic surgery procedures when they have little or no training and little to no skill,” says MSNBC health contributor Dr. Anthony Youn. “An ER doc will take a weekend course on breast implants and perform surgery in [his or her] office. It happens all the time.”

Unfortunately, Dinora learned this the hard way. Now one lawsuit, and another surgery by a certified doctor later, she’s got a more acceptable cleavage. Yet, she still can’t close her eyes completely.

So, what is the moral of this story? If the price of plastic surgery seems way too good to be true, it probably is. Also, having two boobs is better than one!
