Though a black smokey eye is the general choice for the look, it can be a bit heavy-looking at times. Check out today’s Beauty Tip of the Day to see how you can still sport the classic look but in a new way that’s a bit lighter and fresher.

Following the look seen here on GLEE’s Lea Michele, you can see that by using an alternative color to black, like a navy blue (which is one of the top colors for fall), gray, or brown, which will allow you to create a smokey eye that isn’t so stuffy and intense. Though try to keep your color layering below the crease, since any higher and the look starts to look a bit overwhelming.

Another tip within this tip (for those that might be a bit wary to try the smokey eye with all the color gradient work): try using cream shadows for this look, which is a bit easier to blend than powder formulas. Then to amp up the look a touch more, you can also line your eyes on both the top and bottom waterlines.
