It seems that you guys who had getting plastic surgery on your to-do list are going to have reconsider! Well, only if you live in the UK, anyways.
In an attempt for the government to receive a revenue £500 million a year in the U.K, a VAT (valued added tax) has been stapled onto cosmetic surgeries. The tax, a.k.a. the “Boob Tax“, is said to raise the price of plastic surgery up 20%, which certainly isn’t making plastic surgeons happy.
The Boob Tax has already been set for minor treatments, such as Botox and chemical peels, but for the bigger, bolder surgeries, the taxes are still being worked out. The tax is supposed to add approximately £1,000 to the cost of a boob job alone (which is roughly $1572 US dollars). It’s been reported that all patients are required to pay the tax, unless the procedure is absolutely necessary for therapeutic reasons.
By bumping up the costs, patients are less likely to get surgery done, which has in turn angered plastic surgeons. Fazel Fatah, president of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons stated, “They imply that, by definition, any procedure that corrects appearance rather than function is not a medical need. There has been no meaningful discussion with the professional bodies involved.”

Maybe it is not such a good idea...if no one wants to do it in the future because of the tax, then the plastic surgeons loses their jobs and...I don’t know what happens next xD

I agree… Unless the person was disfigured in an accident or something of that sort I don’t think they should get plastic surgery…
This will certainly make people appreciate themselves more, I think.
Although I kind of feel bad for plastic surgeons…
True, true, I agree, but some girls are flat chested and feel very embarrassed about it, so they want to get surgery, and maybe someone is embarrassed by their nose because it is too big (in their eyes) or whatever it may be. People have insecurities (which are encouraged by the media with their “perfect” models, idols, etc. and also other people commenting on others’ looks) and some people are to the point where they want to change themselves. It’s not fair for people who don’t like their appearance, although they SHOULD appreciate themselves more. I totally agree. But I myself have some insecurities, so I understand how others feel, although I would personally not get surgery… And it really is bad for surgeons.
