For a setting powder, Bare Escentuals bareMinerals Mineral Veil has a funny name. Prior to trying this, I imagined a mineral makeup wedding dress worn by a brushing bride. Bare Escentuals and its bareMinerals line of mineral makeup has been around for quite awhile, but I guess you can say that I’ve been saving myself for marriage. See what I did there? You brush on mineral makeup? Not funny? Okay moving on. In all honesty, I can’t tell you why I’ve put off trying mineral makeup when my skin is the perfect candidate for it (oily, acne prone). Along with the Flawless Application Face Brush, I decided to give the Mineral Veil the good ol’ college try.

So here we have the Flawless Application Face Brush on top of the uncapped Mineral Veil.

The Flawless Application Face Brush is your standard face brush for powder dusting. The handle is long enough for a comfortable grip and the bristles are soft and of excellent quality easily picking up the Mineral Veil product (if you follow the swirl-tap instructions that come with the Mineral Veil). The Mineral Veil jar is actually just big enough to accommodate small brush swirling over the product. You can use another face brush to pick up the Mineral Veil powder, but it may be too big or too small for the jar.

Here’s a close-up of the Mineral Veil jar:

One of my concerns with mineral makeup is the fact that its loose powder that is prone to get messy. Fortunately, the jar’s inner-lid shifts and clicks into place over the holes that dispense the loose powder. As long as you’ve shifted and clicked the inner-lid into a locked position, the Mineral Veil will stay in place if you move around a lot.

The Mineral Veil itself is a fine, silky feeling powder. While it looks like it is peach color, it goes on translucent and immediately absorbs shine and makes pores less visible. I don’t know of a lot of setting powders that can absorbe shine AND minimize the look of pores. When worn over foundation, I found that it keeps my oil at bay and keeps makeup in place. Of course, you don’t have to wear it over foundation. It’s a good powder to put on if you’re just feeling oily.

Given its effects, I find that the brush and the Mineral Veil are both reasonably priced. For those with oily skin or people just looking for a good powder to set their foundation, the bareMinerals Mineral Veil and Flawless Application Face Brush are great options to consider!
