Review: OPI Nail Lacquer in Brand New Skates

Upon the Internet’s recommendation, I sought OPI’s Nail Lacquer in Brand New Skates in hopes of it being a dupe for Chanel’s Graphite nail polish. While I don’t have Chanel’s Graphite to make comparisons, I can easily say that on its own, OPI’s Nail Lacquer in Brand New Skates is a pretty graphite-like shade. It’s that gunmetal shade that’s landed on all the Fall beauty trend lists. Here’s what it looks like on, no flash:

Despite its darkness, the color is shimmery and statement making. “Don’t mess with me,” is the particular statement being made. As much as I loved the color, there was one thing I wasn’t too thrilled about — in bright light, the color appears to be sheer despite two coats. Below in the photo you can see what I’m talking about:

When it comes to darker nail polishes, I want to be able to not see my natural nails. As with any nail polish, this one lasted me a good 5 days before any sort of chipping started to happen (with top coat).

The fact that it’s sheer in bright light is slightly disappointing, but won’t deter me from ever wearing this shade again — I don’t often stick my fingers near bright light anyway. Plus, it retails for around $4 USD on Amazon. Compared to Chanel, it’s a good deal.
