I’ve never really been one to wear dark nail polish colors (mostly due to the long and “painful” removal process after I want to change colors), but I have a weakness when it comes to blue shades. This led me to wanting to try out the e.l.f. Nail Polish in Dark Navy. A midnight blue shade sounds pretty, no?
e.l.f.’s official website says, “Our Nail Polishes are back in stock and better than ever! Due to the new and improved formulation, the single nail polish price has increased to $2.
This color-lock formula with chip resistant shield gives long lasting color with high shine. The bristle design glides color on flawlessly, and quick dry formula gives perfect application every time. Key nutrients infused with Vitamin E for stronger, healthier nails.
Our formula is FREE of: Toluene, Formaldehyde, and Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP).”

Here’s my little rant: Don’t always trust the color that you see while the polish is in the bottle, and you might not want to depend on the not-true-to color samples shown on the official site. After application of just one coat, my nails looked like a really really really dark blue that is very close to black. I’m not against black nail polish or anything, but I was expecting the shade to turn out somewhat blue, you know? I would prefer the shape of the bottle to be more rounded too like other nail polishes so that twisting the cap on and off wouldn’t make one think they need to twist it as tight as possible, making it look unaligned with the bottle.
After a base coat, two coats of the Dark Navy, and a top coat, it really did look dark but shiny too. I couldn’t see sparkles like I had while the nail polish was in the bottle. In six days’ time, it started to chip and I was tired of seeing such a dark color on my nails anyway. Time to remove, mwhahaha! It was a bit hard to get all of the color off without working at it with cotton balls and Q-tips with nasty smelling Cutex. *sigh*
Okay, now for the more positive points about the nail polish. The texture of the formula is really easy to apply without getting messy! Oh wait. That was one point.
Even though I was fairly disappointed about the way the color turned out, the nail polish itself (besides the shade) is pretty good, in my opinion. Worth $2.00, and is perfect for those who like extremely dark blue shades to black. Go here if you’re interested!
*Photos were taken with flash, thus the color looking a bit more blue than just staring down at the nails in real life.
