People will do anything to maintain their youth and Botox has been a big part of achieving that goal. However, Botox may have a new, and cheaper, competitor in Xeomin very soon.

Botox is already very popular and much cheaper than other injections on the market, but it still carries an expensive price tag at $10 per unit. Most people require between 20 and 40 units every four or six months to “erase” their wrinkles - do the math and each session is about $200-$400! Or between $800-$2400 a year!

Thankfully for clients, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the US approved of Xeomin this year. Xeomin is a version of botulinum toxin that has been available to doctors for years. It ceases muscle spasms, so it’s become a common treatment for people who have chronic neck or eyelid twitching. Its effectiveness, lasting time and safety is similar to Botox.

The difference in these two is storage and preparation. Botox is a liquid that needs to be refrigerated, so difficulties arise in shipping and storing it. Xeomin, however, is a powder and can sit on shelves for years; it only needs to be mixed into saline prior to injection. In addition, Xeomin’s creator, Merz Pharmaceuticals, just lowered its price by 20 percent, making it even more competitive in its pricing.

Soon, we’ll probably see Xeomin dominating the injection market with its affordable pricing.

I would never use Botox or any other injection treatment, but this sounds like a good change for the potential and current clients of Botox, don’t you think?
