I’ve heard a wealth of great things from all sorts of people about the My Beauty Diary masks, including positive views from Vy when she reviewed the Pearl Powder Mask. That’s why I was super excited when I got my hands on the My Beauty Diary Bulgarian White Rose Mask…
Claims: There are all sorts of My Beauty Diary masks, each with their own properties and all trying to achieve different results, but this particular mask is unique with Bulgarian rose hydrosol (soothes, refreshes and moisturizes), licquorice and kiwi (to whiten skin) and aloe and cucumber (to calm, smooth and moisturize). Basically, it’s a mask designed to restore radiance and leave skin hydrated and soft.
The mask comes in standard shiny pale pink packaging and despite not having too much going on, it’s simple and pretty enough to be considered as elegant packaging. All you have is the logo and Chinese characters (as this is a Taiwanese brand) - not the most amazing packaging ever. So although the packaging is understated and not exactly the selling point of this mask, it’s still enough to be classy.
Application: The cotton mask comes layered on a sheet of plastic (ensuring that the mask does not rip when removing from the package) which can be removed easily for easy application. The mask was totally soaked in solution and rather wet, but not to the point of dripping. Fragrance-wise, there was a pleasant flowery scent which to my disappointment, was not very strong. There aren’t actually any instructions as to how to apply the mask or how long to leave it on for, but having heard about these masks before, I knew that the instruction is to apply the mask, leave it for 20 minutes and then remove the mask, then rub in the rest of the solution and apply moisturizer as normal. I actually left the mask on for an hour since the mask is so saturated with solution and even when I removed it, the mask was still heavy with solution!
Results: The morning after the night of applying the mask, I was left in disdain when I found that there was little sign of the radiance restoration effect or the brightening glow, but when I touched my skin I was filled with joy at how soft it was! It felt as is moisture had been poured back into it and ever so smooth. So even if I didn’t see the whitening properties come out of the mask, it didn’t matter to me because after a mask which took only 20 or so minutes, my skin was soothed and moisturized.
Conclusion: Perhaps this mask needs to be applied regularly to notice any whitening effects, but I would not recommend it if you’re looking for an instant brightener. Instead, this mask is the perfect one to make your skin super smooth! I recommend to apply this mask before bedtime so that when the solution is absorbed into your skin after the rubbing in, your skin has maximum time to soak it in and you’ll wake up to beautifully soft skin in the morning.
