Now, before any of you KPOP Super Junior fans start thinking about the fan club name, e.l.f. in this sense is a cosmetics company known for rather affordable beauty products! Lip stain has been something I wanted to try out for a while, so I jumped at the chance of the Studio Lip Stain in Fashionista from e.l.f. Even better, this one is double-sied, one side with the actual stain color, the other a clear gloss.
The official site says, ” Achieve full coverage that lasts for hours with this long-wear formula. Enjoy silky matte color or layer on the moisturizing clear gloss for a shiny look. With key Vitamins A & E your lips stay smooth all day long.”
A nice thing about the packaging is that the lip gloss is inside a box. The directions are printed on the back. Here is what it reads: “Apply the stain to bare lips and allow to dry for a matte finish. Apply the clear gloss on top of the color for a shiny effect and to moisturize the lips if needed. Remove with any oil or cream based makeup remover of cleanser.”
Taking the stick out of the box, I looked at the color of the Fashionista stain and untwisted that side. Hmm, the color’s not too bright and the texture is not the typical gloss or liquid. Instead, it is a creamy and easy-to-spread formula much like the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream. The clear gloss on the other end of the stick is, well, gloss. Not too sticky or overly thick though, which is a good thing.
Swatch:
I applied the creamy stain first, producing a modestly bright pinkish color with hints of red in it onto my lips. No plumping, no gloss yet, just a layer of color. I let it dry for five minutes. Then, the gloss application. I am very picky about getting colors mixed with other colors no matter what the beauty product, and that’s what kinda happened here. Some of the tint got onto the gloss applicator even though I had dabbed any excess off with a tissue beforehand. After the gloss was on, I wiped off the stained part. Though the gloss wore off after a few hours, the color stayed the whole day until I removed it, yay! Did I feel like a fashionista? Well, maybe if I wore the right clothes…
On my lips:
Personally, I could have done without the gloss, but that’s just me. Is the shade true to the color on the e.l.f. site? Well, pretty close but in my opinion it has a little more red than what they show. I recommend this for anyone who likes an even color WITHOUT the dried-out-lips or the sticky, glossy result.
If interested, $3 each from e.l.f.! There are also other colors available, like Heartbreaker which reminds me of GDragon…
Score: 4.5/5
