We all know that we can colour-correct our dark circles and blemishes, but can we do the same for our lips?
Celebrity and film makeup artist Heba Thorisdottir, whose clients include Scarlett Johansson, Cate Blanchett, and Kristen Wiig, says, “Hues like green, blue, purple, yellow, and black are used more in fashion and editorials rather than in film, but they’re fun shades to play with.”
Although these colours seem a bit extreme, here are a bunch of ways to add a different splash of colour onto your lips.
Blue: Not only does an azure lip glaze counter react the yellow stains on your teeth giving the illusion of a whiter smile, it also enhances the pink undertones of any lip color. Apply a sheer, shimmering formula over a fuchsia lip for a dazzling, holographic effect.
Green: Green is a colour that a lot of people might turn away from, but it actually makes a really nice nude colour (green and red makes brown).
Yellow: “A sheer yellow gloss makes a great highlight for most lip colors,” says Heba. “The more opaque and shimmery, the better!” Dab a little of it onto the center of your lips and on your cupid’s bow for high-focus shine.
Black: Ohhh! The dark and mysterious black, I wonder what it does. It actually gives extra dimension when it is added to your lips. Heba says, “I love using an opaque, glittery black gloss to darken lipstick. It gives some extra dimension.” But if you wanted to go for a vampire look, stick with deep purples or true black colours.
Which lip colour would you try out?
