I had heard of the Holika Holika brand before, though mainly for makeup items. One of the things I’d noticed was that they always tend to have really pretty packaging, matching the sparkly and fairy-esque look of their font and logo. Much to my surprise, they also do skincare and when I had seen their Apple Shine Turn-Over Essence, I was excited to give it a try.
Description: Endorsed by Sistar and CN Blue, the Holika Holika Apple Shine Turn-Over Essence is a night-time facial essence that provides nutrition and moisture and care for dead skin cells while sleeping. Your skin is made soft and shiny due to the organic fruit and grain extracts and hyaluronic acid that is included.
Packaging: With the apple mention, the box and bottle are shaded to match. Featuring various green shades, it instantly brings the image and smells of granny smiths to mind. I was delighted to see the bottle, which reminded me of some potion bottle that a witch (or wizard…in Potions class) would use. Very cute and also sturdy, being made of a glass-esque plastic.
To dispense, I was glad to see that the bottle features a pump to dispense product. Nothing too special, though it does get points for providing cleanliness and it comes out pretty controlled. The opening tip is actually pretty small, so I found one and a half full pumps to provide enough product for my face.
Scent: Like…green apples. Though a very light and perfumed version of green apples - nicer than I expected.
Application + Results:
As an essence, it’s a very light gel, though more water-like. It’s pretty easy to apply and it feels very gentle on the skin. Being a bit sheer, it also absorbs in pretty quick, like in a couple minutes. After it settled in, I found that my skin feels lightly moisturized though without any shine residue, which is pretty nice. Usually you’re layering moisturizer over it, so an essence shouldn’t be too heavy.
After applying it before bed and waking up, I didn’t see that drastic of a different with my skin perking up. But it did look somewhat nicer than usual. I was pleased that my skin didn’t feel or look dry, especially since I only had the essence on my face throughout the night. The effects are definitely a really gradual one, though being so light, there’s not too much you can anticipate.
Overall: On the skin, I like that you can only notice that it is there very subtly. Especially for the warmer weather nights, I like that its light formula is able to moisturize without much weight. Scent-wise, it should please any green apple fan and those that want something light that is able to impart a bit of sufficient moisture.
