Thanks to the lack of English in the Etude House Hot Style Bubble Hair Coloring Dye instructions and my blind faith in the Internet producing legitimate translations, last month’s attempt may not have produced the best results for dying straight-up black hair a light brown. It wasn’t until I recently had a sleepless night of aimless Youtube beauty tutorial video watching that I came upon the most correct way of using Etude House’s Hot Style Bubble Hair Coloring Dye.
The biggest things I learned from Youtube that I’ve implemented in my 2nd application of bubble dye are:
1. Vigorous shaking of the developer bottle is bad! Instead, flip the bottle over 180 degrees 5 or 6 times. Or in other words, hold up the bottle and turn it upside down and right side up 6 times.
2. Comb out your hair before dying. Dye doesn’t penetrate tangles easily.
3. Part your hair in sections and apply from root to tip to each section for a more even dye job. I divided my hair into quarters and held each quarter in place with a hair clip I didn’t mind ruining.
4. Use as much of the dye as you can. When I got through an application, I noticed I only had about an ounce or two left of foam. Previously, I’d only used half the bottle! No wonder the color didn’t come out.
Despite these lessons learned, my second time dying my hair wasn’t without flaw. If you’re standing really close to me, placing all your focus on the color of my hair, you’ll notice that the top of my head is lighter than my ends. And you will laugh. Hard. You’ll also think of it as a reverse ombre.

I’m quite pleased with how the color turned out and am confident that a third application will get me the color featured on the hair dye box. I’ll keep you all posted!
