In addition to NARS Eyeliner Pencil and Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner, NARS has recently introduced the NARS Eyeliner Stylo, a liquid liner in skinny marker form available in 4 shades: Carpates (black), Atlantic (navy), Koala (gray) and Nuku Hiva (brown).

The Claims

According to to NARS, the Eyeliner Stylo, “gives long-lasting, incredible precision - all in one even stroke - for up to 24 hour wear. The highly pigmented colors in four new shades glide on smoothly and effortlessly for intense payoff that dries down quickly and stays put. The super-fine tip allows for precise application and versatility in line width for a variety of looks. A new delivery system and pigment-based formula provide long-lasting color that’s easy to remove.”

Packaging

You get about .02 fl oz of product in a skinny eyeliner pen that’s about 6 inches long:

For me, the length is just right. Although it’s skinny, the length of it makes holding it feel more comfortable. Usually with longer pens, my hands feel less shake-y. Why? I’m not sure. Here it is uncapped to give you a look at the super-fine tip:

How fine is this Eyeliner Stylo tip? Super fine. So, super fine. Given the size, shape and sharpness of the tip, precision is guaranteed! If you’re horrible at eyeliner, you’ll find that using the Eyeliner Stylo makes you less horrible.

Color

Top to Bottom: Koala, Atlantic and Carpates

The colors are heavily pigmented, expressing super deep color. So deep, each color that isn’t black almost looks…black. The lighting you’re in really makes a difference in how much of the color is shown. For example, Koala on me isn’t a very obvious gray at night. Here it is on:

I love how these shades can be both deep, dark and colorful at the same time. There’s a subtle drama about them — from afar, the eyeliner appears black. Up close, you’ll notice that the shade isn’t quite black. This is the biggest thing I adore about these new Eyeliner Stylo shades.

Texture

Smooth, inky. Just like liquid liner should be.

Performance

Sadly, eye makeup primer isn’t optional with the Eyeliner Stylo. In order for them to last up to 24 hours, you need to have a primed eye. Testing it out without primer on a super hot, humid day, I discovered that it only takes an accidental eye rub or a major workout to smudge the eyeliner. This was something I found quite mind boggling because it appeared to dry quickly after application.

With a properly primed and set eye, the Eyeliner Stylo will last you all day long without smudging or fading! Which is perfectly fine, since it’s rare for me to not wear primer. I’m kinda just hoping for the day that I can wear eyeliner without primer.

As mentioned earlier, the Eyeliner Stylo offers excellent precision that allows you to do a wide variety of eyeliner widths and lengths. If you have unsteady hands like I do, you’ll notice that applying liquid liner is rather painless with the Eyeliner Stylo. Two thumbs, up!
