Holika Holika Wine Therapy Sleeping Mask is a skincare product in which you can safely say that you had wine on your face one night without actually being under the influence of alcohol. Or the stickiness. I mean, not that I know what having wine on your face is like…ahem. Anyway, you know how they say that enough glasses of wine can put you to sleep? Well, a lesser amount can be worn on your face, while you sleep. Why? For anti-aging and whitening purposes.
According to Holika Holika, the Wine Therapy Sleeping Mask is, “an overnight mask formulated with wine and available in Red Wine and White Wine, both with their own unique benefits for the skin.” The mask I tried out was the white wine. The white wine mask features a Bourgogne Chardonnay White Whine Extract (10%), packed with polyhpenol and anthocyanin and niacinamide. Best for improving elasticity, whitening effects and providing the skin with moisture. Sadly, none of this is for drinking or…eating.
You get about 120ml of product in the most quirkiest Holika Holika packaging ever — a fake mini (plastic) oak wine cask. It even has the year it was created! 2011 for me. I’m sure you can’t find Wine Therapy Sleeping Mask casks older than 2011 — that’s probably not safe. The older these are, the worse it is. Unlike real wine, each mask has an expiration date on the bottom of it.
At first reading that this mask was a ’sleeping mask’ was a bit confusing. One look at the instructions (in English on the packaging) and it was pretty obvious –the Wine Therapy Sleeping Mask is an overnight mask. As my first overnight mask, I have to say it was pretty easy to use. Basically, you apply it on cleansed and toned face. Pat it on until it dries, then make sure you wash your face when you wake up in the morning. There isn’t much difference between this and a night-only serum.
Welch’s White Grape Juice. Nothing like white wine at all because who wants to smell like alcohol? The scent fades after you apply it.
Goes on clear! When first applied, the Wine Therapy Sleeping Mask has a white, thick gel-like consistency. Once you pat it on, you feel a bit of heavy-ness. As the mask gets absorbed, you can barely feel (or remember) that you applied it in the first place.
I’ve been using this mask twice over the past 3 or 4 weeks. I’ve noticed in general that my skin feels softer and that its a bit brighter. My skin feels a bit more moist than usual, which for me is okay but I could do better with less moisture because I’ve got oily skin. That said, I think the Holika Holika Wine Therapy Sleeping Mask would fare well on skin that’s dry or normal. At the same time, I’m willing to put up with it by being a bit more aggressive on my oil control skincare if it means softer, brighter skin. I definitely recommend this to anyone in need of a moisture boost or anyone looking to revive dull skin.
You can pick this mask up at KpopHeaven for $21 USD.
