Despite Holika Holika’s Strawberry Pore Magic Cover Sealer failing to magically cover and seal my pores, I decided to see if there was any hope with the Strawberry Pore Magic Cover BB Pact in shade No. 2. Testing this product out was actually my first time using a BB pact or BB cream in solid powder compact form.

The Claims

Since I can’t find any decent English translations of the product description, I’m going to assume that this pact is designed to minimize the appearance of pores while offering light coverage. Like a liquid BB cream, only in powder form.

You get about 11 g of product in a cute pink plastic compact that’s a little bit larger than the palm of your hand. How cute is that strawberry?

The compact includes a mirror, round sponge pad and a plastic hinged cover that lies on top of the powder to serve as a barrier between the powder and the sponge pad. It’s simple and everything you can expect out of a compact powder.

If you’re no fan of using makeup sponges, I wouldn’t toss the one provided. Why? Keep reading.

As there’s only two shades available, No. 2 is the darker of the two shades. Initially, I thought shade wouldn’t matter too much since pore covering is its main purpose. Turns out, it makes me look a bit ghostly and then the color mellows out a little after an hour or two. I wouldn’t say that this is the best match for anyone with medium skin. If you’ve got skin that straddles between light and medium, then this may suit you. Here it is on my arm:

Silky and smooth and can easily be applied with a sponge or a brush. The texture isn’t too powdery that you end up getting it everywhere, which is a plus. The powder grains are super compact!

Shade-wise, I don’t think No. 2 is the best option for medium skin. At the same time, I’m still keeping it in my powder rotation because it’s actually great at controlling oil and minimizing the appearance of pores if I apply it with a face brush and use it to set foundation. It kept me matte for a good 6 or 7 hours and that’s without any other use of an oil control product.

What’s interesting is that the difference between using a brush or a sponge is like night and day. You get more coverage out of a sponge compared to applying it with a brush. Pores are also more well-concealed. To keep it lasting long, one tip is to use the sponge then set with the brush.

In conclusion, it’s great at oil control and minimizing the appearance of pores. Shade wise, it’s best for those with light skin though if you’ve got medium skin, you can get away with it as a loose setting powder. If only this was available in more shades!

Score: 4/5
