I read recently about a Nails, Inc. pop-up shop at the Henri Bendel department store in New York. The British company boasts a service that they call the “three-week manicure.” The name pretty much explains it: a manicure that lasts three weeks. But doesn’t this sound awfully familiar? More »

I was sent this link today, and I’m sort of in awe of the magnitude of this Japanese nail art. As you all probably know by now, I’m a huge fan of soak-off gel nail art, and I get it done whenever I can. This Japanese blogger has the most insane nails that I have ever seen! It has been a while since I’ve been able to get back to Hello Beautiful salon in Brooklyn to get my nails done. I really like getting Calgel on my nails, since my natural nails are sort of weak and break so easily. Calgel is a really great alternative to acrylic or traditional UV gel because it soaks off in acetone and requires only a little buffing before application, so it isn’t damaging and there is no drilling involved! My obsession with my nails goes way back to my days as an elementary school kid. I still vividly remember the day that two malicious classmates looked at my nails and then at their own, declaring that mine were “flat, short, ugly and like boy nails” while theirs were rounded and shaped. My little second-grade heart broke at the thought that I had boy nails because, of course, I had never thought of this before.

Fast-forward to my adolescence and further frustration with my nails. They are so thin that I could never get acrylics without destroying them.
