Do you ever wish that your hair was as perfectly conditioned and shiny as the girls in shampoo ads? It seems that there is a delicate balance between well-conditioned hair and greasy hair, and it’s really easy to make your mane too oily. In India, women use coconut oil to obtain those beautiful, glossy locks of hair. More »

One of my favorite movies of all time is Belle de Jour, starring Catherine Deneuve. If you haven’t seen it, you should! Catherine was such a beauty back in the day, and I absolutely loved the chic and effortless hairstyle that she sports after a long day at the, um, brothel — the French twist. However, as a girl with relatively fine hair, I have a heck of a time getting it to stay pinned in place once I twist it up, proving the “effortless” part of the look quite untrue. I scoured YouTube for a good video, and my favorite happens to be by the same user who brought us last week’s Bow Hair. More »

I’ll never forget the first (and maybe only?) time that I rode in a convertible. I was in junior high, and one of my friend’s mom had just bought one. We were going to the movies to meet some boys, and her mom drove us in the convertible. So. Cool. Now, this might have something to do with the fact that I grew up in New England where convertibles are not the most practical vehicle, but all I remember is feeling like someone was pointing a big fan at my face. A big, cold fan. My hair was all over the place, but I think I still managed to pull off a cool entrance to the theater where the boys were waiting for us (in my head at least).
If only Mercedes had thought of this one sooner: a wind guard that keeps the wind off of you while you cruise in your convertible. More »

And it’s not pretty. By now, you’ve probably all seen the pictures from People Magazine of Kate Gosselin’s hair extensions. I mean, you can’t really blame her for changing it up after the number of Kate Gosselin Halloween wigs that surfaced this year, but can we all just let out a collective “NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!” right now? Good. I have to say that I’m not the biggest Kate fan out there… I feel badly for her through this tough divorce, and I feel even more badly for those poor kids, but watching her neurotic, controlling personality on TV makes me cringe a bit. The extensions make me cringe even more. More »

Back-to-back Gaga posts? Coldplay title references? I know guys, I’m sorry. But when I saw the pictures from Lady Gaga’s peformance at the Fontainbleu Hotel in Miami on New Year’s Eve, I had to say something about her hair. We’ve seen it before: platinum blonde locks with streaks of pink, purple, blue, and any other color (makes me miss the days of Gwen Stefani’s pink hair!). But I don’t think I’ve ever seen blonde hair with yellow highlights! More »
I picked up a copy of last week’s French Elle magazine (it’s a weekly in France… if only I could afford to have it shipped to the U.S.!), and Dree Hemingway was on the cover. Dree is a model and the great-granddaughter of a writer you may have heard of… Ernest Hemingway? Anyway, famous granddaddy aside, Dree was sporting some pretty awesome hair flowers on the cover! When it comes to hair, I’ll admit — I am one lazy chick. This isn’t to say I have bad hair, I just don’t do much with it. I’m not entirely sure if braids are in or not, but I’m feeling mighty inspired. Who cares about trends anyways? Now, if only my arms didn’t hurt so much braiding my own hair… More »

Lash Growth Make-Up With celebs like Brooke Shields preaching the benefits of longer and stronger lashes via products like Latisse, the idea of spider-like lashes is no longer a distant dream for many. There are now serums, lash treatments and moisturizing mascaras (like those from DiorShow) that offer the chance to have va-va voom lashes even if you weren’t born with them. More »

It’s that time of the year again… people are packing their bags and heading home for the holidays or jetting off somewhere fun for New Years. It seems like there is no better time than now to take a refreshing break. But, as I am sure you all well know, traveling during the holidays can be quite a mess (security, lost luggage, dreadful delays) and can put a serious damper on your holiday cheer and your crazy fly-away hairs… ergo, Keratin Complex’s Travel Mini Flat Iron, the most adorable on-the-go travel tool that you can always rely on. My obsession with my nails goes way back to my days as an elementary school kid. I still vividly remember the day that two malicious classmates looked at my nails and then at their own, declaring that mine were “flat, short, ugly and like boy nails” while theirs were rounded and shaped. My little second-grade heart broke at the thought that I had boy nails because, of course, I had never thought of this before.
Fast-forward to my adolescence and further frustration with my nails. They are so thin that I could never get acrylics without destroying them. I tried all kinds of topcoats enriched with vitamins and keratin and every nail-strengthening ingredient, but nothing ever worked. Then I discovered Calgel. More »

According to WWD, Frédéric Fekkai hair products will now be sold in mass retail stores like Walgreens and Target. Starting in 2010, the classic Fekkai lines will be available to those who don’t feel like going to a specialty store to get them. However, the move upset the relationship that the line has with Sephora. More »

With that first date comes so much anticipation, and I’m here to take some of the guesswork out of prepping for your big night out. The first and most important thing to remember when going out with someone for the first time is to be yourself. You want him to love you for you, right? More »

From Ningin: What I absolutely love about the world we live in today is the fact that I no longer have to leave the comfort of my own home for beauty advice. Had this been the world I lived in when I was going to prom, I would’ve had better prom pictures to show people. Embarrassing life moments aside, I now owe it all to the Top 5 Asian Youtube Beauty Gurus for making life a lot easier. After all, I wasn’t born looking this good. Sorry guys. More »

So, Proenza Schouler’s Spring 2010 show was pretty awesome, and everyone has been talking about the hair as much as the clothing! The models rocked a beachy wave in their hair, and some of the girls had pastel colored locks.
Recently, Ashley Olsen was spotted with a somewhat toned-down version of the hair style, but I still love it! Try out the look for yourself! More »
