Today’s nail art design is inspired by the Lisa Frank Character “Hunter.” I really loved the gradient color scheme so I decided to do a look inspired by him. This tutorial takes a little more time as it requires some drying steps and sponge application, but that extra time is SOOO worth it! More »

When you read a lot about beauty like I do, you begin to realize that people generally fall under one of two splurge categories: salon manicures or nail polish purchases. I’ve rarely come across a woman who doesn’t love the idea of getting her nails done, but some of those women prefer to build their home collections rather than pick from a salon’s colors. More »

The nice people over at Kiss sent me some samples of their upcoming line of nail products for spring, and I’ve been having a lot of fun playing around with them! Now, let me just say that I am no artist (not by a long stretch), but I’ve been using the Nail Artist Kit to put a little bit of design on my fingers! More »

I was sent this link today, and I’m sort of in awe of the magnitude of this Japanese nail art. As you all probably know by now, I’m a huge fan of soak-off gel nail art, and I get it done whenever I can. This Japanese blogger has the most insane nails that I have ever seen! I don’t even know how she functions in day-to-day life with these claws! More »

It has been a while since I’ve been able to get back to Hello Beautiful salon in Brooklyn to get my nails done. I really like getting Calgel on my nails, since my natural nails are sort of weak and break so easily. Calgel is a really great alternative to acrylic or traditional UV gel because it soaks off in acetone and requires only a little buffing before application, so it isn’t damaging and there is no drilling involved! Whenever I get my nails done, I always wish that I could afford something a little bit extravagant, like a cool design. I have absolutely no artistic ability, so doing my own nail art is pretty much impossible. I’ve been hearing a lot lately about Konad nail stamps though, and I’m sort of interested in testing them out! The design above was done by Beautopia! More »

For this week’s YouTube tutorial, I actually tried out the method being taught! Water marbling is how you can create a tie-dye sort of look on your nails, and it is actually a lot of fun to do! You can see my results above, which actually look a lot cooler in real life. It’s hard to take pictures without good lighting! I did two “accent” nails as the video suggests, because I didn’t have the time to do my full hands. More »

From Girlybubble: I really hate that I’m initially inclined to feeling like I have to eat something if I see something cute. Fuzzy puppies on the street, babies and cute boys are instant mind triggers for this thought: NOM NOM NOM!!!! In a heartbeat, I’d find myself the nearest nail salon willing to apply Hello Kitty gumball machine nail art to my nails such as the ones pictured above. Unfortunately, the one thing that is holding me back from doing this is, I’m afraid of acrylic nail poisoning — I’d want to eat my own nails! More »

The 2009 Tokyo Nail Expo on November 30th showcased the Japanese affinity for intricate pieces of art, such as sculptural bubblegum machines, Hello Kitty and much much more. More »
