Sarah Jessica Parker is no stranger to perfumes — she already has more than a handful of fragrances on the market, and now she is releasing another one that is inspired by the character that she made infamous, Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City. I’m not exactly sure how long Demeter Fragrances has been around, but it has definitely been a while. I remember being in junior high and sampling every Demeter spray in the collection pretty much every time that I went to the mall (yep, I even loved beauty back then!). They’ve always had some pretty off-the-wall scents, but most of them are shockingly accurate. I remember one of my favorites was Tomato, because it absolutely smelled like the tomato plants my mom grew in her garden.

I also recall loving the Sex on the Beach scent, although at the time I thought it was just a funny name and not a drink. Demeter has a whole line of cocktail-inspired scents that are definitely worth checking out! More »

It’s time for another weekly International Beauty Report! This week, I did some field work in Italy! While I rang in the New Year in Rome, I scoped out the beauty scene. Just in observation, I noticed that many young (20s) Italian women don’t wear very much makeup and seem to prefer a natural look. Older women (40s and on), however, were far more made up, sometimes with ridiculously thick eyeliner and outrageous colors! The big beauty item in Italy seems to be perfume, as there are perfume shops everywhere that carry most of the typical European brands like Chanel, D&G and Dior (see awesome Chanel No. 5 Graffiti found in Florence above). I did also find a few fun cosmetics lines in my quest for Italian beauty! More »

Pop star Beyonce is jumping on the fragrance bandwagon and releasing her first scent, Beyonce Heat, in February. She did an exclusive interview with WWD in which she talks about the long process that goes into finalizing a perfume. She says that she wore the scent while she was on tour, and got compliments from fans at meet-and-greet sessions on it. Wouldn’t life be easier if you could share more products with your man? We buy multiple shampoos, soaps and deodorants simply because some are labeled “Men” and others “Women”. While I don’t condone the sharing of deodorant or mandate the use of floral shampoos by men (unless that’s your thing, I guess — be my guest), I do think it would be nice to share once in a while. D&G Recently put out a line of five unisex scents that are made to mix and match. I thought it was a pretty cool idea, so I sampled each scent to see what the fuss was all about. More »
